First Assembly of God

Notes from Pastor Darrell Sept 2017

Happy fall!! I can’t bring myself to be sad about summer’s end because we are quickly transitioning into my favorite time of year. School has begun, the days are getting shorter, and changing Missouri colors are right around the corner. Before we know it, we will find ourselves neck deep in harvest activities and bliss. My personal favorite names for autumn include, but are not limited to, flannel season, bonfire season, and hockey season. But here at Unite Student Ministries, fall means new opportunities to reconnect with classmates and friends, and a new school year to show the love of Jesus to those around us. In fact, in August we commissioned 6 campus missionaries from among our students to Steelville High School and Steelville Middle School for the new year. We praise God for students who have a passion to see our schools reached for Jesus!

This month we are spending our Wednesday nights studying the story of Joseph from the book of Genesis in a series called “The Best Year Ever.” With all the excitement and promise that this school year holds, we are focusing on what the bible teaches about taking any situation, whether good or bad, and glorifying God with the life he has given us. It’s certainly proving to be a transitional year as we are adjusting to the new dynamic of students who have moved on, and those who are now joining us.

Also in August, we launched “Unite After Hours,” a postgraduate Wednesday night small group that takes place after our Middle School/High School service. It is our desire to continue to disciple our young adults after graduation in a way that is unique to them, and better suited to their specific season in life. We kicked off after hours by beginning a study in the importance of discipleship, and much of what the Word of God says about being and making disciples. We are very excited to see what the future holds for our young adults.

We are excited to announce that we have surpassed $2,500 in our speed the light efforts and are continuing to explore creative ways to raise money for our southern Missouri missionaries, and their many needs. To that end, we are running our annual burger shack for the fall festival on Saturday, September 9th so come to main street and support our students in their efforts!

September 24th through 30th is the global week of student prayer. We will be holding our annual See You at the Pole Rally on Monday, September 25th at 7PM in the youth hall. On Tuesday, September 26th our students will meet at the church again at 7PM and begin an evening of prayer that includes praying over our individual schools, and will conclude in front of the courthouse as we unite in prayer over our city, county, nation, and world. And of course, the morning of September 27th students will gather around their school flagpoles and fix their eyes on almighty God in worship and prayer.

Thank you for your love and support of our Students. We couldn’t do what we do without you!
